The Apple AirTag (2nd generation), released in early 2026, is a, button-shaped item tracker designed for Apple's Find My network, featuring a 50% louder speaker, improved Ultra Wideband range, and better privacy controls. It maintains the same compact, IP67-rated water-resistant design and coin-cell battery as the original, with 85% recycled plastic, enhanced precision finding, and item-sharing capabilities.

AirTag 2 (2026) requires an iPhone, iPad, or Mac running iOS 26 or later, making it compatible with iPhone 11 and newer models (including iPhone SE 2nd/3rd gen). The new model features an improved Ultra Wideband chip for Precision Finding, which works best with iPhone 15 or newer, or the iPhone Air. Works with Apple Watch Series 9/Ultra 2 and later for precision, on-screen guidance to the tag.
How does it work?
The Apple AirTag 2 (2026) operates as a secure Bluetooth beacon, leveraging Apple’s "Find My" network of over a billion devices to track items. It sends encrypted signals to nearby iPhones, which anonymously relay its location to iCloud. It features an upgraded UWB chip for 1.5x greater precision, 50% louder sound, and better integration with Apple Watch.
